PURPOSE: The Bilingual Mental Health Therapist provides trauma-informed mental health services to children and families impacted by abuse, violence, and trauma. This position works collaboratively with multidisciplinary professionals and community partners to support healing, recovery, and access to services. The therapist provides culturally and linguistically appropriate services, maintains professional credentials, and supports the mission and standards of Carousel Child Advocacy Center.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides individual therapy services to children and families utilizing evidence-based and trauma-informed treatment approaches.
• Conducts assessments and develops treatment plans based on client needs.
• Provides crisis intervention and support services to child victims and their families.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members, child welfare agencies, law enforcement, prosecutors, schools, healthcare providers, and community partners.
• Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential client documentation.
• Participates in multidisciplinary case review meetings and consultations.
• Assists in the development and implementation of community partnerships and collaborative initiatives.
• Maintains professional licensure and credentials in accordance with applicable standards and requirements.
• Participates in professional development and continuing education opportunities.
• Submits CEUs and professional development documentation by required deadlines.
• Provides current credentials and licensure documentation for personnel records.
• Supports agency initiatives and organizational goals.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

• Master’s degree or higher in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
• Current North Carolina licensure as one of the following:
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
• Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC)
• Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
• Cultural and linguistic competence in the Spanish language.
• Minimum of three years of experience in victim services, child protective services, behavioral health, public service, nonprofit organizations, or the criminal justice system.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge and experience providing individual and group therapy, particularly with children.
• Knowledge of child development, trauma, victimization, crisis intervention, and mental health treatment.
• Experience working with crime victims and families impacted by trauma.
• Knowledge and experience developing, implementing, and maintaining multidisciplinary community partnerships.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and professional discretion.
• Strong problem-solving and leadership skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

In addition to minimum qualifications:

• Three plus years of experience in victim services, child protective services, behavioral health, public service, nonprofit organizations, or the criminal justice system.
• Training and/or certification in one or more of the following evidence-based practices:

• • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
  • Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI)
  • Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP)
  • Play Therapy
  • Problem Sexual Behavior Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (PSB-CBT)
  • Comparable trauma-focused treatment models

Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit for extensive periods of time; use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard and calculator; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel or crouch. In addition, the employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
• Must submit to and pass a criminal background screening and E-Verify requirements.
• Requires a valid North Carolina Driver’s License, good driving record, and automobile insurance.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must pass a drug screening.
• Ability to work flexible hours/schedule, e., occasional Saturdays and evening hours and ability to work off-site in different settings throughout the community.

Work Environment:

Works primarily in an office setting providing direct services to children and families. Regular interaction with clients, caregivers, multidisciplinary team members, and community partners is required.

Approximate travel: 10%

Travel may be required for meetings, trainings, court appearances, and community outreach activities.
