A Partner in Prevention is an organization or business that has committed the time and effort to educate themselves on how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

As Partners in Prevention: We are educated, we are vigilant, we minimize opportunities for abuse to take place, we hold one another accountable, and we will take the personal risks necessary to intervene on behalf of children.

CSAP Initiative

To combat the epidemic of child sexual abuse in our communities, Carousel launched the Tri-County Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Initiative with the goal to train 10% of our adult population in Stewards of Children (approx. 35,000 adults). This curriculum teaches practical steps all adults can take to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

Look for the orange Partner in Prevention emblem, awarded by Darkness to Light. The program and associated emblem is intended only to convey that the organization has met required training and child protection policy standards, and is not an endorsement of the services provided.

We have reached the end of our first official year of the Tri-County Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Initiative! Launched on April 1, 2022, the goal was set to train 10% of the adult population in Stewards of Children to reach a tipping point in New Hanover, Pender, and Brunswick Counties.

In the Initiative’s first year, we have trained 2,307 adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse!

Additionally, have trained 46 organizations and received approval for 19 Partners in Prevention. We are in the process of submitting/awaiting approval for 21 additional Partnerships. This will total 40 Partnerships in the Tri-County area! These Partners are listed below:
