Unite to Shatter Silence, Dismantle Shame, and Erase the Stigma surrounding Child Sexual Abuse.

Launched in April 2022, this initiative aims to train 10% of the tri-county adult population (approximately 35,000 adults) in Stewards of Children®. Research shows that reaching this 10% can trigger a societal tipping point, leading to widespread adoption of critical practices.

Purpose: To enhance community engagement and shift social norms toward prevention by increasing access to and demand for CSA prevention education. Through community partnerships, we are reframing prevention education as a vital public health investment and corporate social responsibility, ensuring all adults are equipped to safeguard children and support survivors.

Partnership Opportunities

Education is key to CSA prevention, yet most adults never receive training. Common barriers to lack of education include:

  • Lack of awareness about CSA in our communities
  • Lack of access to high-quality prevention training
  • Lack of time for training outside of work hours

Organizations and businesses are catalysts for change. Partner with us to break these barriers and provide education to your staff!

The adults you employ likely consist of:

  • Survivors of CSA
  • Parents, caregivers, or family members of children
  • Role models to children
  • Volunteers who work with children
  • Voters
  • Friends, family members, or acquaintances of individuals who have harmed children or who have thoughts of harming children

Benefits of Partnership

Partner in Prevention Requirements

To become a Partner in Prevention, an organization or business must:

  • Train 90-100% of their staff/volunteers in Stewards of Children®; AND
  • Commit to providing ongoing child sexual abuse prevention training.
  • Complete the Partner in Prevention: New Applicant Form
    • This form covers information about your business or organization needed by Darkness to Light to confirm Partners in Prevention.

Additionally, youth-serving organizations are required to:

  • Implement organization-wide child protection policies (we provide consultation and assistance with the creation and review of policies); AND
  • Conduct routine background checks on every staff member/volunteer who works with children.

How Will We Know a Difference Has Been Made?

Carousel has partnered with the University of North Carolina Wilmington to conduct a 5-year longitudinal research study on the impact of adult-focused child sexual abuse prevention education.

Individuals who take the training will participate in a Pre-Test, Post-Test, and Evaluation on training day along with follow-up surveys at 6, 12, and 18 months following their initial training. These surveys assess the retention of prevention knowledge, attitudes, and self-reported societal impacts.

*Participation in the research is optional; individuals can opt-out during the Pre-Test. Those who opt-out will still complete the tests, but their data will not be included in the final evaluation.*
